One of the growing impacts I see from spontaneous exchanges of information among friends about one’s whereabouts or local events and opportunities would be to benefit local businesses that found ways to attract foot traffic by way of social media hype or coupons. Especially with the growing use of location-aware smart phones. This would also contribute to the greater cause of stimulating local business activity in walkable mixed-used communities.
